How to Get A Longer & Deeper Sleep

One of my few goals for 2017 is to manage 8 hours of sleep every night. It's quite difficult especially with schoolwork and having to wake up at 6:30 most days, but I feel so much better with good quality of sleep. I've thought of a few simple ways to get not just a longer sleep but a deeper sleep as well!

Take off your makeup ages before bed | Well, not ages, but I didn't know how to phrase it. Often I find myself taking off my makeup as soon as I decide to go to bed. But I always find that if I take my makeup off as soon as I don't need it on anymore, for example after I get home from school, I save time before bed and get to bed easier. Also, is it just me or does my skincare routine really wake me up? I think its all the water splashing on my face..

Read a chapter | I cannot stress how important this is! The book doesn't matter (as long as it interests you of course) but reading just a chapter right before hitting the hay winds down your brain ready for sleep. Its so relaxing to focus on something not emitting blue light, and if you do it often enough your brain will be trained to realise that reading in bed = time to sleep.

Write a few pages | If you have a journal to write in or a story/blogpost you're working on, just write down a couple of pages of something. Similarly to the last point, it winds down your brain because you'e focusing on something that isn't emitting light. I love writing in my journal before bed, it literally takes five minutes!

Apply body moisturiser | Especially if the scent is relaxing like lavender or chamomile, then applying a moisturiser all over your body is so relaxing and pampering. Not only do you get the benefits of a full body moisturise, but you will fall asleep quicker while you inhale the nice scents!!

What do you do for a longer and deeper sleep?

  2. I always write on my notebook and write a to-do list for the next day. It helps me from staying away from my phone x

  3. These are useful tips! I normally try to stay off my phone but that often fails, I really need to start reading more before bed and perhaps that will help to stop me from browsing my phone haha. Also, I definitely feel more awake after doing my skincare haha. Leonie x
